Love & Anarchy Presents spotlights award-winning Danish actress Trine Dyrholm on May 7, with a Masterclass in acting led by Dyrholm herself. The evening will feature two recent films starring Dyrholm: the beautifully perceptive family drama Beginnings (2025) and the critically acclaimed Other Victims (2024). The evening is organized in collaboration with the Amos Anderson Fund
Trine Dyrholm has been called one of the most versatile actors in the Nordics, and she has built a remarkable international career spanning film, television, and theatre. Dyrholm is known for recent award-winning festival hits The Girl with a Needle (2024) and Queen of Hearts (2019). The Danish actress is also remembered for her breakthrough role in Thomas Vinterberg’s classic film The Celebration (1998).
The Love & Anarchy Presents screening opens with Jeanette Nordahl’s Beginnings, which portrays a family falling apart in the midst of crisis. The married couple Ane (Dyrholm) and Thomas (David Dencik) have been going through a divorce behind their children’s backs, but an even bigger crisis enters their lives when Ane suddenly suffers a stroke. The mother loses control of her left arm and leg, and with it, her ability to manage the family’s everyday life. The couple decides to continue living together, despite Thomas already having a new partner. This sharp depiction of family dynamics and marriage during a crisis premiered in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival. The film is spoken in Danish and it has English subtitles.
The second film of the evening is Zinnini Elkington’s Second Victims. Set in a hectic shift in the neurological department of a hospital, the film follows a skilled doctor, Alexandra (Özlem Saglanmak). Her mundane workday turns into a nightmare when she makes a fatal mistake involving a young patient. Is the responsibility on her, or does it lie with an overburdened healthcare system? Trine Dyrholm delivers a powerful performance as the grieving mother of the young patient. Please note that the film is spoken in Danish and it has no English subtitles.
Between the films, the audience will hear Dyrholm’s in-depth Masterclass, which explores acting and the creative processes behind the scenes. The Masterclass offers engaging themes for both film audiences and filmmakers alike. The session is moderated by film journalist Marta Balaga and lasts approximately one hour. Access to the Masterclass is included with a ticket to either film. The language of the Masterclass is English.
Trine Dyrholm is visiting Finland to lead the Söderlångvik Masterclass, organized in collaboration between the Amos Anderson Fund and the Love & Anarchy’s Industry side. aimed at Nordic filmmakers. Söderlångvik Masterclass is aimed at Nordic filmmakers, and this spring’s edition centres on the creative dialogue between director and actor, and the shared process of building a character.
