Luis, a woman in her twenties, is spending Christmas holidays with her mother Christel at their cottage. Their cozy getaway is shadowed by a package Luis’s mother has ordered, that turns out to be her gravestone. Her mother is in a hurry to go through old things and take them to the recycling. No Christmas tree this year either, because why take down a tree just for a moment’s decoration?

When grandmother Vivi shows up with a couple of wine bottles, the atmosphere shifts immediately. When three generations of women come together, tensions start to rise to the surface with power that is impossible to ignore. How have the women treated each other, what has been left unhandled? And is everyone really doing as well as they say they are?

Danish Charlotte Brodthagen’s directorial debut depicts precisely and vulnerably the burdens that carry out and change shape from generation to generation. The film gives space to questions of whether it’s possible to fix these relations before it’s too late. Maybe love and resentment are closer to each other than we think.
