R&A x VVO: Interstellar Live

The magnificent music of Hans Zimmer will be brought to life by VVO and organ virtuoso Roger Sayer, who also performed on the film’s original soundtrack. The orchestra will be conducted by Martin Gellner. This film concert is presented in collaboration with the Vantaa Pops Orchestra and the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy. The concert is sold out.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, Interstellar (2014) received five Academy Award nominations upon its release. One of these went to Hans Zimmer’s extraordinary score, whose dreamlike soundscapes carry the viewer through the emptiness and isolation of space.

In the film, former NASA pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) embarks on a perilous journey into space in search of a new home for a dying humanity. His daughter Murph stays behind to solve a scientific problem crucial to the survival of the human race. Interstellar is once again particularly timely, as Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, arrived in cinemas this summer.

Lauri Porra, Artistic Director of VVO, describes the music of Interstellar as ambitious, emotionally powerful and sonically unique.

“Hans Zimmer masterfully combines classical, electronic and experimental soundscapes. The organ plays an exceptionally prominent role in Interstellar. It is wonderful that we have the magnificent organ at Musiikkitalo at our disposal, and that it will be played by Roger Sayer himself.”

In this spectacular concert, the entire film will be screened on the big screen, accompanied by the full film score performed live by a large symphony orchestra.
