The 1973 military coup left deep scars on Chile and all of Latin America. Join The Ulkopolitist and Love & Anarchy for a discussion following the screening of the film The Red Hangar! The discussion will provide context for the film and explore the relevance of these events to Chile’s current situation as well as to U.S. foreign policy during the Trump era.

Joining the discussion is Finnish-Chilean researcher Alfonso Padilla, who fled Chile following the 1973 coup. He brings a valuable, firsthand perspective on the events depicted in the film. The other expert is Ella Virtanen, a doctoral researcher specializing in Latin America at the University of Helsinki. The discussion will be moderated by Tomi Kristeri, chair of The Ulkopolitist ry and a researcher at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs.

The event is organised by The Ulkopolitist, an independent online media outlet covering international political phenomena as well as Finnish foreign and security policy. For fifteen years, The Ulkopolitist has been publishing analyses and commentaries to provide critical and fresh perspectives that inform and support the Finnish foreign policy debate.
