R&A Shorts: Outsider Art Festival Presents
A screening organised in collaboration with the Outsider Art Festival features the latest cinematic appearance of guitarist Pertti Kurikka’s satanic alter ego, as the final installment of the Kalevi Helvetti trilogy gets its world premiere.
Kalevi Helvetti and Kalle Pajamaa are the dynamic duo behind this short film trilogy, who share a long history dating back to their time with the punk band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, where they were the band’s founder and manager respectively. The films chronicle the artistic saga of Pertti Kurikka’s alter ego, Kalevi Helvetti, at the crossroads of horror stories, outsider art and experimental music. With the final instalment of the trilogy having just been completed, the series is now set to have its world premiere.
The film trilogy is produced by Pertin Valinta, a production company specialising in outsider art. The production was carried out inclusively through collaboration between outsiders and insiders in the art world and filmed as part of international events celebrating Finnish outsider art in New York, Helsinki and Tokyo.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and, afterwards, a separate after-party at Pertin Valinta Gallery (Hakaniemenkuja 2, 00530 Helsinki), with free admission.
