The documentary film NAZA, directed by Oscar-winning Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham (No Other Land, R&A 2024), which received a sensational reception at the Venice Film Festival, will have its Finnish premiere at the R&A Afters in Bio Rex Lasipalatsi on Saturday, October 3.

Filmed at night on rooftops in Tel Aviv, the film reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s systematic destruction of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The film received the longest standing ovation in the history of the Venice Film Festival from its premiere audience, lasting 25 minutes.

The film, which examines the use of artificial intelligence and automated surveillance in the Israeli military’s offensive against Palestinians, has sparked international controversy since its premiere. The title refers to a term used by the Israeli military for the number of civilian casualties. It features interviews with 24 anonymous employees of the Israel Defense Forces and intelligence services, who, among other things, describe calculated killings of civilians.

The film was produced by the British newspaper The Guardian as part of the news organisation’s commitment to independent journalism. Also involved in the production are Oscar-winning The Zone of Interest (R&A 2023) director Jonathan Glazer and producer James Wilson, who serve as executive producers.
