Blue Film
In this taboo-breaking psychological drama, a young camboy spends the night with an anonymous older client. As the evening unfolds, it turns out the two men share a dark connection from the past.
Twenty-something Aaron Eagle (Kieron Moore) is a camboy who struts in front of the webcam in his underwear. He promises to spend the night with his anonymous viewer (Reed Birney), who offers an exceptionally high reward for the meeting. At first the man opens his door with a ski mask on, but it soon turns out that the men know each other from way back. Their dark, shared history turns the evening into a night-long confession, where fetish, fantasy and trauma coalesce.
Blue Film is an intimate and demanding psychological drama, that is built almost entirely on the two actors’ intense dialogue. The independent film follows the example set by early psychosexual film classics, and especially the influence of Catherine Breillat is strongly present. The viewer’s moral compass is tested, and the film offers no easy ways out. Ultimately, the film is about shame, abuse and loneliness.
The intense film has been too controversial for many film festivals. The feature debut of Elliot Tuttle demonstrates how queer film can still be truly transgressive and challenge societal norms.
