Love & Anarchy wishes a wonderful and revolutionary Pride to everyone! To celebrate Pride Week, we’re excited to reveal three queer film gems from the upcoming festival!
Sauna (dir. Mathias Broe) – Johan works at Copenhagen’s only gay sauna and enjoys the city’s energy, parties, and endless possibilities. Everything changes when he meets transgender William at the sauna and true love hits him like a wave of steam. But the love between the two confronts the narrow societal norms around identity, sex, and relationships. But f*ck the cistem! Mathias Broe’s debut feature had its premiere at Sundance.
Lesbian Space Princess (dir. Leela Varghese & Emma Hough Hobbs)– Here is the best queer sci-fi musical-animation of the year: in a “gaylaxy” far far away introverted Princess Saira is devastated when her bounty-hunter girlfriend, Kiki, suddenly breaks up with her. And things get even worse when Kiki gets kidnapped by the Straight White Maliens! Only Saira can save her (ex-)partner – after all, she is the daughter of the lesbian Queens of planet Clitopolis. The journey is full of chaos, glitter, and riotous humor, packed with references to 2010s internet culture. Leela Varghese and Emma Hough Hobbs’ absurd animated adventure might just be the queer Rick and Morty you never knew you needed!
1 Girl Infinite (dir. Lilly Hu) – Best friends Yin Jia and Tong Tong have carved out a life together: shoplifting for food, joyously pelting oranges at cars, and sharing a bed. One hot and drunken night the girls engage in an intimate act that goes beyond their normal friendship. But when Tong Tong falls for a toxic drug dealer, Yin Jia is willing to do anything to keep her by her side. 1 Girl Infinite is director Lilly Hu’s (who also plays Tong Tong) debut feature and a visually stunning portrayal of first love, sex, and obsession.
