The Good Sister
A chillingly timely drama about a woman crushed by the machinery of a heteronormative and patriarchal society.
After a breakup, Rose (Marie Bloching) seeks refuge with her older brother Sam (Anton Weil), with whom she shares a deep sibling bond. But when Sam is accused of rape and Rose is asked to testify, her loyalty is tested in ways she never imagined. What begins as a family crisis gradually evolves into a deeper confrontation with social reality. The film explores not only Rose’s personal struggle to reconsider her moral integrity, but also reveals how subtle, often invisible forms of heteropatriarchal power shape even the seemingly safe space of family life.
In her quietly powerful debut, Sarah Miro Fischer crafts a film that makes a lasting impression through formal simplicity, eschewing visual excess and letting the strength of its bold script naturally guide the story. Its linear structure mirrors Rose’s emotional progression, capturing her internal conflict with remarkable sensitivity. Fascinating and brave, the film unfolds slowly and deliberately, offering a nuanced exploration of sisterhood and inner strength.
