Rains Over Babel
The lovechild of Amélie and Anora, this pulsating, dazzling queer fever dream unfolds during a night at Club Babel, where the dance floor crackles and destinies change in an instant.
What an attitude! What a dizzyingly lascivious queer cocktail, thrown right in your face! The Colombian film Rains over Babel bursts onto the screen in a medley of neon. The night is hot and the characters hotter, and the city pulsates through your whole body.
Directed by Gala del Sol, this film is an electrifyingly sexy interpretation of Dante’s Hell. It’s a surreal, pressurised club night full of music, mysticism and all-in energy. Drag shows, live music, and high speed chases all fit into the hours of just one night.
Rains over Babel is a vibrant, pulsing tale of life’s crossroads: of the deciding moments in which some doors close and others open. Some things get left behind as destiny finds a new direction in the blink of an eye. Characters are fighting for their lives and playing dangerous games at high stakes against powerful players. Sometimes the only thing needed to win is finding the right singer.
This directorial debut is simultaneously profound and merry, serious and riotous. Although the character’s fever dreams seem unending, the attitude never falters. Perhaps no one before has had the confidence of the party crowd at the gates of Babel.
