Lesbian Space Princess
A candy-coloured and daring queer musical, in which a lesbian princess sets out to rescue her ex from the clutches of white hetero maliens.
Lesbian Space Princess is a daring queer sci‑fi musical comedy written and directed by Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese. This candy‑coloured, hand‑drawn, politically sharp film offers fast‑paced humor, catchy musical numbers, and a dash of kinky comedy. It celebrates queer identity, friendship, and finding one’s own voice.
Princess Saira, daughter of the lesbian queens of Clitopolis in the Gay‑laxy, arrives at her annual lesbian gala freshly single. Holding the title “Most Boring Royal,” she embarks on a quest to rescue her ex-girlfriend Kiki from the absurd yet threatening antagonists called the Straight White Maliens. They demand the royal labrys— a pink‑handled axe— but Saira doesn’t have one. Given just 24 hours to find the labrys and save Kiki, she is guided toward self‑discovery by a misogynistic AI spaceship and a new friend from a moon‑crystal cave.
The film premiered in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival in February, winning the Teddy Award for best queer film. Critics praise it as an energetic, fearless, and pure celebration of queer identity.
