A sharply crafted and delightfully irreverent tragicomedy, Kill the Jockey dances on the razor’s edge between absurdity and catastrophe with fearless precision. Set in a Lynchian world where time and space seem to subtly melt, the story weaves together strange dreams, eccentric characters, and glimpses of a city out of sync.
After a devastating accident, Remo (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart), a talented but self-destructive jockey, wanders aimlessly through the urban landscape of Buenos Aires. Wrapped in a mink coat, holding a handbag and wearing a hyperbolic bandage, he is forced to confront identity, desire and self-understanding. Meanwhile, his crew, led by Lola – Úrsula Corberó, who leads what could be one of the most unforgettable dance sequences in film in recent memory – sets out on a search that is interrupted by ruthless mobsters and marked by encounters both absurdly comic and quietly disturbing.
This free-spirited, magnetic, and completely unpredictable film is set in a striking, meticulously stylised visual world, captured through the distinctive lens of Finnish cinematographer Timo Salminen, longtime collaborator of Aki Kaurismäki in their many masterpieces.
