All We Imagine as Light is an intimate and poetic film that dives into the depths of the human mind. The film moves through everyday moments and surprising encounters in the lives of two Mumbai nurses, but more important than the plot are the athmosphere and the feeling of being present. The camera lingers on the breath, skin and inner movements of the main characters in such an intense way that it almost feels like you can touch them – like an invisible piece of clothing that we all wear.
The film weaves together beautiful and sentitive imagery and music in a way that emphasises the shades of melancholy, hope and longing. More than a simple story, the film unfolds into a meditation on our deepest longings: the desire for connection, the ache for love, and the intimacy that is sometimes lost – and sometimes found again.
The winner of the Grand Prix in Cannes last year, All We Imagine as Light makes you stop in your tracks and surrender to its rhythm, in which significant meanings are built from small gestures and looks. It is a film about humanity, fragility and finding beauty in silence.
