R&A esittää

This spring’s Love & Anarchy Presents screenings will culminate on May 18 with the celebration of Studio Ghibli’s 40th anniversary, organised in collaboration with Cinema Mondo at Bio Rex Lasipalatsi. The audience now has the opportunity to vote for their favourite films to be included in the day’s programme and win tickets to the event.

The Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy brings top films to audiences throughout the spring in the Love & Anarchy Presents screening series, organised in collaboration with Cinema Gilda. The spring season will conclude on Sunday, May 18, with a celebration of the beloved Studio Ghibli, a core part of the festival’s programming throughout the years.

Japan’s legendary Studio Ghibli has brought to the big screen countless films adored by Finnish audiences, many of which have been featured in the R&A lineup over the years. On the Love & Anarchy Presents screenings, Bio Rex Lasipalatsi will showcase films and additional programming for Ghibli fans of all ages, from morning until night.

The Ghibli Day kicks off with a Finnish-dubbed, family-friendly screening of the delightful Ponyo (2008). The documentary Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron (2024) gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Boy and the Heron—tracing its development, complex production process, and final rush toward release. The evening will culminate with the unforgettable Ghibli classic Princess Mononoke (1997).

In addition to these films, two prime afternoon and early evening slots will be filled with Ghibli films voted as favorites by the audience. Voting is now open on the Love & Anarchy festival’s Instagram and Facebook pages, as well as via this form.

The films included in the vote are:
Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986)
My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
Only Yesterday (1991)
Porco Rosso (1992)
Spirited Away (2001)
Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
The Wind Rises (2013)
When Marnie Was There (2014)
The Boy and the Heron (2023)

The two films that receive the most votes will be screened in their original language versions with Finnish subtitles as part of the Ghibli Day lineup.

Voting is open until Sunday, April 27, and among all participants, Ghibli Day serial cards (each including three tickets) will be raffled off. The winning films will be announced and ticket sales for the screenings will begin on Monday, April 28.
