Heikki Kossi is a world-renowned foley artist who has shot to film industry stardom with his clever recreation of sounds, from emotional ambience to slow, sinister steps. His work can be heard in the likes of Ad Astra (2019, dir. James Gray), The Beguiled (2017, dir. Sofia Coppola), A Cure for Wellness (2016, dir. Gore Verbinski), and The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (2016, dir. Juho Kuosmanen).
This year, the festival’s Nordic Flair Award is presented to Heikki Kossi, who fulfills the criteria of a unique Nordic talent whose work continues to push the region’s film industry excellence to new levels. In honour of receiving this award, Heikki Kossi will host a masterclass, presented by Helsinki International Film Festival and the Finnish Film Affair, in which he will showcase his tricks of the audio trade and show what really goes on behind the soundboard. The Masterclass also includes an on-stage interview with the sound maestro.
During the festival, his talent can also be heard in his own favourite work The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince, 2015) and Sight and Sound: Ekström & Kossi, a series of short films showcasing his collaboration with the visual artist Saara Ekström.
Nordic Flair programme is supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
