Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy brings the winners of the Cannes and Sundance film festivals to silver screens. The festival presents the Finnish premieres of the Palme d’Or winner SHOPLIFTERS, the Un Certain Regard winner BORDER and the Sundance winner THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST. The 31st HIFF takes place on 20 – 30 September.

Two Cannes winners have their Finnish premieres at the HIFF. Japanese auteur Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Palme d’Or winner SHOPLIFTERS (Manbiki kazoku) is a warm, heart-wrenching story of a family that deals with rules in an unconventional way. The Un Certain Regard winner BORDER (Gräns) is a Swedish fantasy drama about gangly customs officer Tina (Eva Melander) who can smell people’s emotions. Secrets are revealed when she meets a stranger (Eero Milonoff) with similar abilities. SHOPLIFTERS will be distributed in cinemas later in 2018 by Cinema Mondo and BORDER on 28th of September by Future Film.

HIFF will also present the Finnish premiere of Desiree Akhavan’s Sundance winner THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST in which the teenager Cameron (Chloë Grace Moretz) is forced into a gay conversion center in the early 1990s. Atlantic Film will distribute the film in cinemas starting 19th of October.

Finnish films of the 31st HIFF include Anna Eriksson’s debut feature M, which is an arthouse take on the life and person of Marilyn MonroeInka Achte’s documentary feature BOYS WHO LIKE GIRLS shows how Indian youth are educated out of violent behavioral models. Another documentary, Iina Terho’s FULL OF LOVE, brings us inside the Finnish new burlesque scene and its emancipating power.

The 31st Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy takes place on 20 – 30 September. Recently renovated Bio Rex and Maxim return as festival cinemas. More information will be revealed in August.
