HIFF invites filmmakers to participate in this year’s national competition of R&A Shorts. Deadline for submissions is 31st May.

Helsinki International Film Festival’s short film selection R&A Shorts showcases approximately 140 short films every year. Especially young emerging talents are brought to the spotlight. New European films are at the heart of the program together with the R&A Shorts national competition which presents the year’s best Finnish shorts – this year for the 6th time.

Last year, the winner of the R&A Shorts main prize was Kuinka käänsin Rabobeston kylkiasentoon (Rabobesto – Or How I Saved a Monster) by Mari Mantela (in the picture)

The submission for the national competition of the R&A Shorts is open for fiction, documentary or animated films that are max. 30 minutes long. The production or co-production country of the film must be Finland. The competition line-up is selected by members of the Love & Anarchy Festival Ministry. An independent jury appointed by the festival will choose the winners. All films selected for the competition will be screened as part of the 2023 Love & Anarchy Shorts programme.

The main prize is the R&A Short Award which is a monetary award. The Finnish Film Foundation’s Uusi Aalto (in English New Wave) Award will be given to a new talent. Established in 2021 in collaboration with AMPI, The Moving People and Images Award is sponsored in turn by AVEK, YLE and the Finnish Film Foundation.
