HIFF Brings Film Festival Magic Back to the Cinemas

Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy is bringing the magic of films back to the cinemas of the greater Helsinki area. The first major film event to be held in Finland after the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic, HIFF is taking steps to ensure that its audience can participate safely.

Finland’s largest film event, Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy (HIFF) takes place 17th–27th September 2020. The 33rd edition of the festival includes a selection of the best films from around the world catered to the audience to be experienced as they were intended – together, but also safe.

The first confirmed films from the 33rd HIFF line-up are the Tunisian director Mehdi Barsaoui‘s touching drama A SON (Bik Eneich: Un Fils, 2019), German helmer Sandra Wollner‘s brave android story THE TROUBLE WITH BEING BORN (2020) and French animator duo Jean-François Laguionie and Xavier Picard‘s new masterpiece THE PRINCE’S VOYAGE (Le voyage du prince, 2019).

HIFF aims to show all films from the line-up of this year’s Season Film Festival, which was cancelled in March because of the COVID-19 outbreak. From that selection, WAVES (2019), EMA (2019), HARRIET (2019) and MISS FISHER AND THE CRYPT OF TEARS (2020) will have their Finnish cinema premiere in September.

– Finland is gradually opening up again and we are thrilled at the prospect of bringing HIFF – Love & Anarchy to audiences in September and to experience the shared pleasures of watching films in cinemas again. We are monitoring the situation closely during the summer. The health and safety of everyone attending is our priority, adds Anna Möttölä, CEO of HIFF.

In wake of the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival will take new safety guidelines into notion in its 11 cinemas. HIFF and the festival cinemas will work closely to ensure that everyone can attend the festival safely.

The message of togetherness and caring is supported by this year’s festival art made by visual artist Edith Hammar.

The 33rd HIFF takes place on September 17th – 27th.
