HIFF takes the popular outdoor screenings on a whole new level as the location changes to industrial hall at Konepajan Bruno. Three films from the official festival program will be screened on 2-4 September free of charge.
On the first weekend of September the audience can dance to Palestinian rap music, see the refugee crisis on the island of Lampedusa and peek into a dog’s soul.
The event starts with the music film JUNCTION 48 that depicts the love and struggle of two hip hop artists in the conflict ridden Palestine. Even though the topic is not the lightest one the movie is big on feel-good vibes. The film won the Audience Awards in Berlin and Tribeca film festivals among others.
On Saturday the audience will be taken to one of the most dramatic stages of the refugee crisis, the Italian island of Lampedusa. FIRE AT SEA (FUOCOAMMARE) sets the refugees’ dangerous Mediterranean crossing against the background of the ordinary life of the islanders. The movie was celebrated by the critics and it won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. The screening is organized in co-operation with Amnesty and the Finnish Refugee Council. The film will have a theatrical release in Finland on September 23rd by Cinemanse.
Please note that the movie is subtitled only in Finnish and Swedish.
Sunday is dedicated to a man’s best friend with the screening of the well-known artist Laurie Andersson’s new film HEART OF A DOG. The film is a trip into the mind of the artist herself and her terrier Lola. Well behaving dogs are very welcome to the Sunday’s screening. Bring your own Buddy!
The doors will open 7.30 pm every evening during the weekend. The schedule of the screenings will be confirmed closer to the event. Please join the Facebook event to get the latest info. The venue is located in Vallila, Aleksis Kiven katu 17 A.
There are some chairs in Konepajan Bruno but by taking a blanket or seat cushion along you’ll make sure that you’ll have a comfortable seat in the venue. The hungry and thirsty can buy food and drinks from the food truck and bar. The event is also the opportunity to buy festival shirts and bags as well as fresh from the oven catalogues.
