The new Film of the Month screening format of the National Audiovisual Archive and Orion was launched together with the Helsinki International Film Festival 2012. The first Film of the Month was chosen by the HIFF audience: Japanese director Naoko Ogigami’s lovely RENT-A-CAT was voted the winner. Contrary to information released earlier, the film will, however. be screened as the Film of the Month in January, and it will also open the spring season of the Orion cinema.

In October, the audience has a chance to see the film that received almost as many votes as the winner: Marjane Satrapi‘s and Vincent Paronnaud‘s CHICKEN WITH PLUMS. The film is based on a comic by Satrapi, and tells the story of a world famous violin player who decides to die. Mathieu Amalric shines in the leading role.

Chicken with Plums at Orion:
Sunday, October 7th at 8pm
Thursday, October 11th at 5pm
Saturday, October 20th at 7pm
Friday, October 26th at 7pm

The other nominees for the Film of the Month were IN DARKNESS and WAR WITCH.
